“We have worked with Mo over a number of years and his expert advice, tutoring and inspiration has made the difference for our highest attaining students. Mo has delivered Oxbridge masterclasses and one-to-one interview preparation that has not only facilitated our students to receive offers from super selective universities but has also raised their aspirations and their sense of belonging at top institutions. As a school serving a deprived community with a majority of students on free school meals, Mo’s sessions have been invaluable in building student confidence while also exposing them to the rigour of top-level academic study. We have also benefited from Mo’s brilliant Critical Thinking Accelerator course. Over a number of sessions our highest attaining students were exposed to exceptional teaching that enabled them to approach problems more analytically and with an interdisciplinary mindset. The students found the course stimulating and challenging and it has provided the foundation for both academic success and an an ability to study independently much more effectively. Overall, Mo has provided an exceptional experience for many of our students from disadvantaged backgrounds” — Richard Tindell, Vice Principal, Ark King Solomon Academy
As a boy who was born on a farm in Pakistan to an illiterate mother, Mo believes that education was the silver bullet that firmly put his life on a completely different trajectory. He has been the beneficiary of many, many kindnesses from teachers and mentors. Too many to name here, but he owes them a great debt of gratitude. In that vein, it is very important to him to ‘pay it forward’ and help the next generation. He is a product of everyone who has been generous enough to offer him opportunities to excel. Having gone to state school himself, to then studying at the University of Cambridge, to teaching at Eton College and lecturing at the Judge Business School, he is proof that education is the sine qua non of social mobility. He currently gives much of his time pro bono to those that need it, either individuals or institutions. Currently, he works closely with Oakes College at Netherhall School in Cambridge to help build aspirations amongst their Sixth Form, and is also a mentor for MigrantLeaders, a charity aimed at removing barriers experienced by migrants. He is also exploring working with Young Offenders to help rekindle their interest in education. He also offers guidance to schools on building aspirations in their strongest students to help put their best foot forward for university applications. From having regularly supported students and staff at Oakes College in Cambridge, to Denbigh High School in Luton to providing pro bono support to individuals from state schools, Mo firmly believes the mission to improve social mobility. As Joe Seddon, from Zero Gravity says, “talent is everywhere, opportunity is not”.
Karim Marsaoui, Deputy Head of Netherhall School in Cambridge had this to say about the pro bono support Mo had given their Sixth Form:
“Mo and his team have inspired our sixth formers to reach for aspirational universities through his optimistic and practical advice on applying for Oxbridge. His tailored approach gives our learners the confidence they need to aim high in their choice of university course. Mo understands how to get the best out of our students and whether students are successful or not in their final applications they are grateful for the learning experience which Mo guides them through. He is a true expert in judging which skills students have to develop most urgently in order to succeed. He is direct and supportive in his feedback and his honesty is appreciated by our students. He gives students very specific things to work on to improve their applications and interview skills. He works with a variety of students who would never have otherwise applied for top universities. Mo’s reputation of supporting students has resulted in more students applying for our sixth form, he is integral to progressing our students to excellent universities.”
